Not tax, legal or financial advice

MTDFox is record-keeping software. Nothing on this site or in the app, including tax estimates, guides, calculators, blog posts, category suggestions and reminder emails, is tax, legal or financial advice, and none of it takes your personal circumstances into account. Estimates are simplified: they assume the figures you entered are complete, apply standard allowances and the income tax bands for the region you chose, and ignore reliefs we do not model. HMRC's own calculation is the one that counts. For advice on your situation, consult a qualified accountant or tax adviser.

Your responsibility for what you file

Every quarterly update and final declaration is sent under your own HMRC authorisation, on your instruction, and is your declaration to HMRC. You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of your records, for sending updates on time, for keeping records for the period HMRC requires (at least five years after the 31 January filing deadline), and for any tax, interest or penalties that arise. An accountant you invite can prepare your figures but cannot send them.

HMRC recognition

MTDFox is completing HMRC's recognition process for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax software. Until recognition is confirmed the app cannot send submissions to HMRC's live service; records are kept in HMRC's format so nothing needs re-entering when it can. The current status is shown on the HMRC page inside the app. MTDFox is not endorsed by, affiliated with or acting for HM Revenue & Customs.

Accuracy of guides and calculators

Thresholds, deadlines, rates and penalty rules in our guides and free tools are taken from HMRC's published guidance and are checked when HMRC changes them, but tax law changes and mistakes are possible. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed and links to the GOV.UK source. If you find an error, tell us and we will correct it.

Third-party services and links

Payments are handled by Stripe, bank connections by GoCardless, and sign-in with Google by Google. Their services are provided under their own terms and we are not responsible for them. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we do not control their content and linking does not mean we endorse them.

Availability

We aim to keep the service available at all times but cannot guarantee it. Planned maintenance is announced in the app. If HMRC's systems are unavailable, submissions cannot be sent until they return; HMRC's deadlines still apply, so do not leave a submission to the last day.

Intellectual property

The MTDFox name, logo, design, code and written content are the property of BYTE HAVEN LTD unless stated otherwise on the licences page. You may print or save pages for your own use. Copying, scraping or republishing the content, or using the name or logo, needs our written permission. Your own records remain yours.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law we exclude liability for loss arising from reliance on estimates or guides, from records you entered, from submissions you approved, or from a failure to submit on time, as set out in section 8 of our terms of service. Nothing in this notice limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
